Marta Maliszewska was born on 27 July 1982 in Gliwice. When she was 3 years old, she started her artistic career with singing in the concert-hall band „Talisman” belonging to the Garrison Club in Gliwice. The band won prizes in contemporary festivals, between 1985 and 1988, often thanks to Marta`s performances. A jury commented on her „born on the stage”. She was singing and dancing in children`s groups „”Bustle”, „Rhythm”, Baj-Baj”.

At the primary school she was signing as a soloist in many local events, on the radio „Pulse” and on the local television. At the age of 13, she had her first radio broadcast on radio „Pulse” entitled „My mother`s diary”. Then she also went into writing. At the secondary school she was performing as a soloist with her band. She was singing in all cultural establishments in Gliwice and on many stages in Silesia. She still cooperated with the radio „Pulse”. Marta also started recording her own disc. In addition, in that period she began to work as a volunteer in the project „Big Brother, Big Sister”. Marta was singled out for her work and she received an invitation to the Presidential Palace in Warsaw and to the Sejm, where she gave a speech about a programme for the press, an all-Poland radio and television. She wrote a lot in this time and sent for literary competitions. Sometimes she won a prize. She attended music school, the Faculty of Vocalism. Before a secondary school leaving exam she made a decision about her studies at Jagiellonian University, the Faculty of Polish language and literature, the speciality of knowledge of culture. Marta got to the University without any problems and she went through her studies easily. Marta run literary workshops for youth at the time. The efect of her work were published volumes of teenage poetry. She sang in Singing Studio in Opole. When she credited the last semester, she decided to take part in the student programme „Work and travel” and she went to New York in June 2006. Marta worked there in Playland. She fell in love with New York. She came back to Poland in October and intended to return to USA later. She already had fixed an apprenticeship in Barrow Street Theatre in New York, which she was due to start in February 2007. She was preparing to the flight. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 31 January 2007, leaving us in deep sorrow. Marta left over 400 poems, the play, stories, beautiful diaries, songs, recordings from concerts and love, which she always bestowed on other people. The Third Marta Maliszewska memorial Festival of Poetry took place in her death anniversary in order to commemorate her. Two volumes of poetry: “To be together with the stars” and “New face of life” were accepted in July 2009 by the library of Columbia University in the City of New York, thanks to professor Anna Frajlich- Zając`s efforts.
